While October is playoff season in the MLB, LADIES, we can not forget to acknowledge the importance of taking care of our second bases. Breast Cancer is one of the most common type of cancer diagnoised in women. The U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Uk have the highest rate of diagnosis. The "C" word is scary! At one point we may have had a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker living with breast cancer. Everyday we are finding out new information about this disease, but its up to us ladies to be our own health advocates.
We all know the importance of breastfeeding our babies but did you know that studies show that breastfeeding can reduce your risk of breast cancer!! We need to continue to educate ourselves and be diligent in our health. Here are some quick prevention tips:
- Ladies don't be shy, FEEL YOUR BOOBIES! It can save your life. The more you know how your breasts normally feel/look the more you will notice something out of the ordinary or changes in them. - You gotta make "healthy lifestyle choices." I know some of us have heard this at one point in our lives but a healthy diet and regular exercise can transform your life. Remember slow and steady wins the race so put on your sportsbra, drop that cookie and get moving!!!!!
- Know your risk!!! Educate yourself on your family's health history. The more you know, the more you can take the necessary measures to try and prevent this disease.
- Get your Mammogram!! We can not stress enough to utilize this screening tool, especially if your over the age of 40. Mammograms can help detect breast cancer before you see/feel any symptoms. Click on the following link for a list of symptoms www.nationalbreastcancer.org
Remember early detectiion is the key. "When breast cancer is detected early and is in the localize stage the 5 year survivial rate is 100%" as per The American Cancer Society. So lets take care of our Milk Jugs!!
